Good morning guys its me again, after a few posts now ive finally decided that an OLED 77" would be the top choice its way over my budget but i dont want to regret not picking one up and settling for an inferior model i'd just kick myself for not increasing my budget.

I live in Manchester and visit the Currys clearance store occasionally which is hit and miss but now i am armed with more knowledge and im looking to compile some kinda of shortlist of other models that would tick all the boxes and broaden my horizons. They are mostly customer returns and some damage box ones i have a lot more knowledge now on what to check for and run tests also if needs be if i think something is a miss.

Key features im looking for are
Dolby vision
2.1HDMI
120HZ
VRR

Top of the list is the LG C1 but should i consider B1 or A1?

Also have the A80J on the list, i understand new models are on the way but dont really want to wait too long but i imagine they will be big prices. Unless these new sets would drop the C1 prices?

Any other sets i should add to the list? The G1 is amazing but over my price range sadly.

costco have just dropped the sony KD77AG9? back in stock.

seems to be a 2019 TV set but priced at £2400 doesnt seem to have any of the 2021 features tho. 120hz , 2.1hdmi ETc is it a good set/price?

All the Sonys don't have VRR, and looking at the previous models, i wouldn't hold out hope for a firmware update.

Also what Melmac says...!

Are you really sure what you want? You could spend £1200 now and £1200 in a few years time and still be better off.

However the A1 lacks many of your requirements. I think you need to step back and have a proper think and research. It seems to me you're swayed far too easy, not taking a proper analytical view and just guessing your way through to a choice.

£2400 is 3 times your original budget???

You guys are 100% correct i keep changing my mind and practically got talked out of most sets i had on my list and most of them got trashed.

Ive gone from one extreme to another a number of people just recommend that with my previous mentions of budget that i drop the 75-77" screen size which is most importnat to me and get the 65" C1. almost did this several times.

The LG OLED's are stunning im hooked but i just couldnt drop to a 65" from my ideal 75 size. So just getting the 77" version would be best doubling my budget and tick all the boxes.

I'm still no closer unless a good deal pops up on one of these i still cannot commit just yet.

You need to remember, the more you look into it, the more you use it, generally the more nerdy you are about it, will always result in wanting more. If your budget doesn't support that, it's just a case of making the sacrifice somewhere.

The price jump is insane imo when talking about 65" to 77". The 55" to 65" is fair for the B1 model. For the Samsung 94a as an example, 55" to 65" again is just too much of a cost leap, and again at 65" to 75" it's another grand! A grand to not move your seat closer to the screen (and reposition speakers) when wanting movie mode.

Have you looked at rtings size tool?
In order to achieve the same field of view from 65" to 75", it's a mere 30cm. Test their FOVs vs your current screen, and see what feels nice to you. It may give you some perspective on costs.

Another thing to remember, if you have to wait 6 months to save more money, the current TVs could be all sold out and you'll be waiting for the next ones to drop down in price. Will they offer more tech, now offsetting the cost increase from the old tech? I don't actually know the answer to that, and it differs between brand and models. But for me it didn't seem like worth waiting for as i've managed to find the one i want pretty much, and sacrificed the size a bit due to not wanting to pay more.

I'd get the B1 if OLED is defo what you want. £250 cheaper than the C1 and there's not much difference unless i've missed something.

Never seen that calculator before i always had it i was 2m away but we changed sofa other year and its actually over 3m now :o so the sizing is actually correct.

What are peoples opinions on buying a used (Almost new) TV im looking/found a 77" C1 which is a fantastic price.

The main thing is the stand is missing which aint an issue as im wall mounting, ive been told its Ex-display and been displayed 1-2 weeks in store.

Ive also been told it will come with a full 12 month warranty from LG also can a warranty be transferred? if a fault occurs do i contact LG directly in that 12 month period?

a lot of companys are offering 5 years warranty on the LG's (Most tv's) would it be possible to buy a warranty/extension from a 3rd party company or insurance?

Worse case claim on home insurance if a fault occurs after that time even tho its technically used?

Would love some feedback on these points if possible guys :) Good morning too!

I have a LG C8 and Sony AG9. Both are great and would recommend the C1 or AG9 (even though it is a couple of years old). Costco and richer sounds have the C1 for c£2,700 which in my opinion is great value. They also offer 5 years warranty so I would buy brand new than second hand. Costco have the Ag9 for £2,400 but based on your needs the LG sounds better value.

Morning guys just updating and letting you all know i went for the 77" OLED C1. Lucked out and managed to bag one directly via LG for £2557.78 :) with a 5 year warranty.

Decided against an ex-display model just not quiet sure i trust what they say shop looked like one of them dodgy electronic shops you usually walk past after some research my bank was saying yes but my brain telling me know.

Blew my budget but its still affordable so thanks for people concerned tho!

Good choice. I’m sure you will enjoy it

I'll be honest i have no idea how to calibrate but i'll be sure to put a request in here when it arrives and ive seen a few videos on youtube that will help :)

Calibrating is different to the menu's general settings. Calibration is much more indepth, i guess that's the reason it costs around £200 for someone to do it.

General settings are very generous on the good modern TVs however, so that'll be enough for most people. Selecting the movie or game modes might possibly be enough for you to be happy too. Though i've always tweaked my TVs and monitors to what i like, i'm sure a pro TV calibrator would roll their eyes at the warmth i've set my monitor to for general desktop use.

Yea i'll have a play around not paying somebody £200 to come round the gaft ha.
