OLED pairing for a 5080

Hey hey,

Treated myself to a 5080 this week with the idea of also getting a 4k 32" OLED panel. I have toyed with the idea of a 1440p UW and for no real objective reason I'm still leaning to a 4k 32", despite not hearing anyone being unhappy with an UW. 4k UW is intriguing but my setup (5080, 7800X3D) would struggle somewhat I imagine? I know I won't be maxing out 240fps at 4k with a 5080 either though.

Anyhow I've had my eye on the Alienware AW3225QF (some 12% sale just ended yesterday it seems, typical) but wondered if it's worth waiting for the next gen of panels this year; seem to recall a Reddit thread mentioning new types of coating that eliminate most of the flaws associated with WOLED and QD-OLED. From what I can remember Rtings favoured the MSI MPG 321URX for PC gaming but they're sitting behind a paywall now (tbh I may pay up for further research, they're benchmarking is insane).

It'll be used 95% for gaming, that being said however it'd be nice to still have crispy text clarity.

Just realised no question exists in this post yet - worth waiting for new panels or are the coupled listed above just fine as they are?

Cheers :)

5080 will be fine with any normal 4K screen, 1440p ultrawide is less pixels so would be easier to run.

I am using my 5080 with a dual 4K 57" ultrawide which is double the pixels of normal 4K and get decent enough performance for my expectations. (between 60 and 100fps most of the time)

I run a 34" 1440p UW 175Hz OLED with my 5080 and it runs most things great, though doesn't that often get to the refresh rate limit. When I play on my TV at 4K/120Hz it's still a good experience, though I've had to turn down settings in a few games (and drop DLSS to performance from quality, though as I sit further from the screen the difference isn't discernible).

I bought the MSI Ultrawide linked above last week to pair with my 5070 ti, after considering a 32” 4k OLED, and have no regrets.

Cheers for the replies thus far.
I rekcon it'll be a case of whatever I get I'll be amazed by (still loving my LG C1, that was a fantastic TV upgrade). Overthinkign this as I do most things, but I deffo didn't want to fall into a trap.

Are the newer gen panels worth waiting for? May be getting wires crossed but aren't they supposed to have better coatings? Paranoid me wants to wait but cynical me thinks it may just be a gimmick to charge full whack.

You def want a similar coating to your C1 as it's so good, and anything lesser will be a downgrade in some ways. Blackshield on the QD side or True Black on the Asus/LG side.

5080 is great with 4k, I have the Asus XG32UCWMG personally with one and it's damn good! If you do go UW though the new 360Hz panels are the only ones worth considering imo like this MSI model;

I got this one a few weeks ago and have been very pleased with it so far, image quality is excellent and I've encountered none of the issues associated with earlier generations of OLED ultrawide panels; I'd previously tried an Evnia 34M2C6500-34 and had to return it due to the fringing around text (plus the stand was absolutely massive). The presence detection feature is good too and integrates with Windows quite well. I've got a 5080 and it's handled everything I've tried so far with ease.

In hindsight I would have gone with w-oled rather than my QD-oled PG32UCDM. The gloss coating isn't a problem in itself and looks amazing, but the smudge and scratch factor is a constant worry. I understand the newer generation QD panels are better with that though.

My 5080 does 4K really well, but needs a good dose of upscaling to get high framerates in games like The Finals. The G-Sync support is a saviour - I very rarely get the 240fps my monitor is asking for but with G-sync I can happily bounce around in the 140~180fps territory.

You could go with one of the 38” 3840x1600 screens. Thats somewhere between the two and 16gb cards should hold up really well over time at that resolution.

Just a heads-up but it's worth holding on a couple of months for the cheaper new QD-OLED panel monitors coming out with the new Blackshield coating (glossy and a LOT less prone to scratching/damage) and a 4th generation panel. Both Gigabyte and AOC will be bringing cheaper models out (ignore the Asus and MSI models, both well over 1k) circa £800/850 it seems from the pricing info released.

From said article;

"The monitor includes a 3-year warranty with burn-in cover, with further details found on the manufacturer’s website. The screen is available from late February 2026, with an RRP ~$850."

I've no idea why it's running late, but worth waiting for as it'll be within your budget.

Gigabyte MO32U24

It seems the 24 at the end differentiates it from another model. I was getting a little excited there...

Models and their numbering, bah.

Still torn between 4k 32" vs 1440 UW. If I got an UW and would be happy I know I'd always be thinking what the 4k looks like.
So it's 4th gen panels coming out soon? Happy to wait a bit longer but fortunately money isn't an issue (well, £800 to £1200 isn't) so I'm good to go with a flagship model so long as it's epic.
I get the feeling any oled will be a night and day upgrade from my Acer IPS but if I'm doing this I want to do this the best dramatic way.
Deffo leaning toward a qd as I don't ever have a light source on the monitor too

Overall I could not really adapt to a UW format, whether curved of flat. For my secondary monitor I have a 34" 3440x1440 monitor, against my primary 4k 32" one. I can appreciate some aspects, no pun, of the UW but of the two I still go for the 16:9 4k.

Have you used, and enjoy, an UW screen..?

Ideally it would be useful if you could experience a 21:9 type monitor.
Varying ratios, for the curves, some more banana like than others, or flat. The one I have now is flat.
I did struggle with general Windows use with a curved UW screen, as many of them seem to be curved these days.
I think that it is a marmite experience.

The MSI I have has such a subtle curve that I don't really notice it, and I'm really enjoying having enough screen width to be able to pop out a video playing in a tab and have it running beside my normal browser or whatever other window I'm using.

Some other brands, LG for one, use a much more aggressive curve which I really didn't like the look of.

In this day and age, where's best to see actual hardware? Can only think of PC World at the mo, and I havent set foot in one of those since my first SSD died amost 20 years ago.
And then to find a place that actually has a decent array of enthusiast monitors..
