OLED upgrade

I have impulsively bought a 5090 because, well, I could. This also has me eyeing a monitor upgrade. I'm currently rocking a Samsung G7 1440/240 IPS monitor. It's curved but I don't really care about the curve.

There are a couple of OLED options on the market and I'm wondering if anyone has taken the plunge and, if so, what did you think?

If going 4K I recommended 27" variant if you want no perceivable issues with text while browsing forums all day on top of gaming on it DP 2.1 to tick all boxes otherwise plenty of good 32" options (I'd recommend PG32UCDM and FO32U2P) but if you want Dolby Vision that will reduce your options

If you're happy with 165Hz some good 32" options that are slightly cheaper if you're going brand new.

I would recommend going B Grade/2nd hand for the best deal at 4K if the brand new pricing is a bit too much for you,

As for 1440p 280Hz tandem oled displays may be to your liking if going that route. ( ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQWMG, and Gigabyte MO27Q28G)

If you want best HDR impact get an OLED TV instead, pick your poison there. I don't think HDR is good enough in games to justify focusing on it exclusively as a purchasing decision but that's me.

Definitely going 4k and 27" this time around. 32" is too big for my personal viewing distance. I'd like to stay at 240Hz, too, and not step backwards in terms of refresh rate.

I have seen the UX27 and the PG27 with the only real differences being Dolby and DP 2.1. It's an approx £160 premium for those two features - debating whether it's worth it.

Price is not an issue.

I'm going to go against Personality here in stating that 4K at 27" is too small of a resolution to actually enjoy 4K, things are sharper in desktop/work use but you'll be hard pressed to tell the difference in actual games vs the necessary performance uplift over 1440P (I get you're using a 5090). I'd never buy a 27" screen at a higher res than 1440P personally speaking.

If you've not used OLED before it often feels smoother in gameplay too, so less than 240hz might arguably be less of an issue, that said I'd try to demo things to be entirely certain.

If 27" is your max it's unfortunate, but I'd opt for a 32" 4K OLED which is the minimum I'd consider for 4K res (would wall mounting help with distance over having it sat on a desk?), a 34" ultrawide at 3440x1440P or a very high refresh standard 1440P 27" OLED.

Here's the three I would be looking at given the above statements:

I have to agree 27" at 4k is not wise imo.

Ah I think it's a subjective choice. It comes down to desk depth / size as well as the games you play. I've had both 32" and 27" 4k OLED monitors. I really enjoyed both - but ultimately the 32" felt too big for me for the FPS games I play and my desk size.

27" was a more natural size for me to use to play FPS games on. The 32" was a better size for single player games (I finished Horizon FW on my LG 32" model and honestly was blown away at how immersive that game felt on that screen) and I also preferred 32" for productivity. I could use Windows at 100% resolution scaling and essentially have 4 1080p screens right in front of me.

At 27" I tend to stick with 150% windows resolution - which essentially is the same 'size' as a 1440p screen.

If I was only working and playing single player games, I'd have gone with 32" - but FPS games are the main thing I play 90% of the time when I'm not working and 27" (and my desk space) was the better choice.
