Hi,

I mentioned I was looking at TVs whilst talking to my Dad today - I've got his 10 year old 55" TXP50U30B Plasma and TV picture quality seems to have improved somewhat since that TV... I'm looking at LG OLED TVs and use my TV for Films, Sport and Gaming.

I was looking at the 2021 LG C1.

Anyway my Dad said he'd sell me his OLED55C8PLA for £500. They're going for around £650 used on ebay so I know it's a good deal but he doesn't game on it and I've got no idea how well it does for gaming, I know Films and Sport would be fine.

I was looking at the 2021 LG OLED55C16LA, which is around £1,500. Not sure whether that would be massively better for gaming or if I wouldn't notice any difference...

C1 can be had much cheaper, around £1000 for 55". The C9 onwards can do 120hz @ 4k, have VRR with the C1 having G-Sync, FreeSync which do make them exceptional gaming TVs.

So can be nice if you have a 3xxx GPU, AMD 6xxx GPU with some grunt or next gen console.

I have a PS4 - I'll probably buy a PS5 for Christmas.

It was the 65" C1 I was looking at.

Ah right, says 55C16 in your initial post, 65" for £1500 is about right. I mean the C8 for 55" is still a very solid TV. Most movies and content will look great and gaming without all the top end features will be nice. But if your looking for both the bigger 65" size and all the gaming stuff, then C1 is pretty exceptional.

Yeah I mean, I looked at one of those viewing distance calculators earlier and I sit around 13 ft away from my TV and it said that an 80" TV or something would be the right size! :D , but that said where the TV would be doesn't have that much a huge amount of space either side on the wall - so 65" might be a bit big, 55" may be better suited. I can see why the C1 is so highly rated on ocuk - it's the top pick on rtings. So I guess it's a question of do I pay £1k for a C1, or £500 for the C8 which I know has been looked after, and tbf I've seen it a few times and to me the picture quality looked great - though I haven't studied it like you would if it was your own.. maybe I should pop over at the weekend with my PS4 :D

Defo would hook up your PS4, tell your dad doing a test drive  . Even if its not the latest and greatest, will still get lots of the OLED goodness with games on C8!

I think it'll be a massive upgrade on the TXP50. I recently bought a Playseat so I put it a few feet away from the screen and couldn't believe how reflective the glass was in daylight, that's the main reason I started looking at new TVs, although I've known how much better the picture quality is for ages.

I went to see some yesterday, I think I'm set on a 65" TV. Although that's a great price for the 55 ^

I'm wondering whether to spend £1,500 on the C1 or £2,200 on the C2. C2 is on sale at the moment.
