Robert Forstemann (the german track cyclist with MASSIVE thighs) is only entered in the MTB so that germany have a larger number of people to select from for the track events (there is a limit to the number of riders on the track team, but there is a loophole that any rider entered into any cycling event can compete on the track). Now that all of his track events are finished, it would be funny to see him actually have a go at the MTB, but i doubt he'll event start.

Video of the course is here

Just watched that course video, looks pretty rubbish to be honest.

All seems very forced and fake, a shame considering some of the awesome MTB locations available in Wales, N. England and Scotland. Oh well, it is the London games I suppose!

Was speaking to my mate who owns an MTB shop who was basically saying that although it looks rubbish most of the competitors think it is a pretty good course.

Yep, i think that if you think about it from a spectator's perspective, it will be a good course. It would be much nicer to ride if there was a bit more natural stuff and singletrack, but watching a race on singletrack where nobody can pass anybody else is very boring. A lot of the fireroad type stuff which they have there looks wide enough for at least 2 riders side by side, so there should be a lot more interesting.

I was expecting a track that would leave me thinking "I could never do that!" but it looks very easy, still I don't think I'd be keeping up with the worlds greatest.

One thing I think is also worth pointing out to those who say it looks easy, is that its being filmed by a GoPro camera which with such a wide field of view makes things look a lot less steep and nasty than they really are.

There seems to be plenty of free space for viewing, I'm a bit annoyed there weren't more GA access tickets sold. Perhaps its something to do with the damaging the land, along with access and facilities for spectators.
