Olympic Torch on eBay

To be fair, it doesn't look to me like they pushed him into the bush, they were all jogging, they grabbed him when he got to close and quickly took him to the side to get out of the way of the procession, the momentum of that, and the fact they were holding on to him meant that they ended up in the bush.

I've watched it another couple of times and I think I see what you mean. However he's trying to get back up from the bush and one of them is keeping him in it. Perhaps it was an accident, however shoving someone who is running will likely result in them falling over, and there was no need for a shove.

It's not a big deal really... the police were probably not needed other than that one point, which is possibly why they were a bit over the top.

It looks a little "harsh" but it also looks like they picked him up and explained. I don't really see a problem. It was pretty obvious he shouldn't have gotten that close anyway, so if he had gotten hurt it would have been his own fault.

The auction in the OP is exactly the same as several other auctions by "other" users... Down to the wording in the advert... :p

Hmmm...

At least it shows they're doing their job, if he has any complaints he shouldn't have run so close.

What job would that be? They weren't Police. They were designated London 2012 TST (Torch Security Team) officials who just happened to be police members but NOT police officials. They were off-duty and out of uniform. If they were on-duty and fulfilling their duties as police, then they'd be called police. That bloke was on a public highway, and even though he may have gotten close to a lump of flaming aluminium, it wasn't closed to public access and they had no recourse to bundle him to the ground like they did.

But hey, don't forget that we are the country that allowed Chinese government thugs to police our streets during the Olympic Torch's jaunt around this country in 2008.

Police are Police 24 hours a day. Do some research before posting perhaps?

I may be mistaken but I thought I saw a clip on tv where members of the public were kissing the torch bearer and putting their hands on the torch (?) is this not a massive breach of security?

One of the guys at work is an olympics fanatic and owns about 4 torches from previous Olympics. I wouldn't be surprised if he manages to get one of these :-)

Nah what a foolish thing to do, he had it coming. I bet if he was let close enough and stabbed one in the back you wouldn't be saying that.

While we often hear about knife crime, particularly in gangs of youths... stabbing an olympic torch relay runner (mostly ordinary folk) is a bit of a stretch.

I think there hasn't been much in the way of publication of what the security details for the torch are. You often see events where there are people high-fiving, handshaking or patting such runners on the back. When you add this to the fact the event has been taking place on open roads without fencing barriers, many people wouldn't have even been aware of this security perimeter that you aren't allowed to cross.

The only thing to have come out of this incident is that it's given the security arrangements some publicity.

The olympic torch palava is embarrassing. What a waste of time!

Can't help but agree with this. It's seems like a really weak gesture put on by the Olympic committee to try and disguise the fact the games is solely for London.

Agreed, I turn the radio or tv off or over as soon as they start banging on about the boring ****. Oh look flight 2012 bringing beckham and some fire to london, what a complete waste of time and money.

I can't wait for the Olympics to be over.

Grumpy old man :D

Next to no Euro build up this year over shadowed by a load of tosh.
