Are the mju minis any good? im lookin for a new dig camera, the only 2 cams i have owned in the past are the mju 300 and the mjy 400, wanting to stick with olympus as im used the the whole interface, however i am open to suggestions, im after something thats easy to use, takes good quality shots but has options i can play about with. Im a camera n00b but would love to learn more and have a cam which is capable of something more than just click and shoot shots

cheers!

A couple of my mates have the Mju minis, I myself have a Mju Digital 800. They are tiny so great for keeping in your pocket and taking snaps or for when going out but I wouldnt really reccomend them for learning "propper" photography a Canon might be a good balance.

Personally i'd get one of the new Ixus 65's when they come out next month :) Though i don't think they'll be cheap :(

[edit] just looked at the Olympus, and the Ixus 65 is 2x the price ;) Go into a high street store and have a look at the cameras though, as for a beginner it's a good idea to have a look at the way they work, and not to just pick the first one you look at!

"a Canon"   What difference does the brand make

If he wants more control then certain models may be better than others and Canon make some suitable models but so do other makes. He can learn "proper photography" using a suitable model from another manufacturer better than with an unsuitable model from Canon.

If people don't grow out of this Canon obsession then Canon will become to photography what Microsoft is to software
