I wasn’t sure where to post this, so I’ll try here:
Ok, so when I run three fairly recent games (HL2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2 and Gears of War) I get random crashes (looped sound, blue screen reboots, occasionally massive graphics defects on screen). For the first two in the list I get an error message (OM Paging Pool low or something along those lines - sits at the top right of the screen). Sometimes when my machine crashes I get an error message referring me to Steam’s support system. On one of the TF2 maps I can play all day and night and it won't crash. On others (Hydro?) I can't even get in.
So I visited their knowledgebase’s answer on this issue and followed it’s instructions. I downloaded ProcessExplorer and checked my Paged Physical Memory usage. It told me that it should be lower than 150mb. I had it running on a second monitor while I played TF2. It started at 80mb when nothing was being used, when up to 110 in the menu, then up to 145 during the game – it would steadily increase until the system rebooted.
I removed Spysweeper, AVG and Messenger. There was a slight reduction, but no resolution of the problem. I updated graphics and sound drivers. I disabled any services which were unnecessary. I tried killing the processes which were running while I at the desktop (some of which resulted in my machine rebooting
) and still no dice. I disabled everything in my BIOS which might be an issue (such as onboard sound). I have removed any old driver installations on the system. No luck.
I’ve got an E6400, on a Gigabyte DS3, 2gb of RAM, plenty of hard-drive space and I’m not overclocking any more.
Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
