Omega Seamaster ...ahem ROTTY

There must be room for manouver / discount I would have thought.

I bought a Rado dress watch last year and am thinking of trading it in against a Seamaster. It have been on my shopping list since Goldeneye came out in 1995.

I also got a 'Seamaster Professional' for my 21st, and 15 years later its still going strong to this day, Ive worn it 24/7 ever since and it hasn't missed a beat and kept perfect time, its never let me down. AFAIK its only had about 3 batteries in that time as well. I think thats great value for money, and a few knocks aside, it doesnt look like a 15 year old watch. Recommended.

Thinking about this thread I think it might be time for another one :p

Enjoy your watch, I love mine to bits.

I keep seeing people mentioning "independent" shops where it's "easy" to get 15-20% discounts off RRP on watches...I can't seem to find any! Can anyone name one in, say, London?

I don't know the london dealers, what have you tried

find the best price you can on the web from a UK seller

print it off

go to indy ADs and be prepared to buy on the spot

tell them that if they match the web price you buy now, never failed for me

% discounts depends on what you are buying, don't expect 15% of a SS Daytona but I would want more than that off a Tag, Frank Muller and many Breitlings

Ok, thanks. My main issue now is that I can't seem to find or be able to think of any "indy ADs." (BTW, what does AD stand for?)

cheers!

Authorised dealer ?? If you dont buy from an authorised dealer, then you dont get the factory warranty as you wont get the stamp on your card.

Ah, Authorised Dealer, that makes sense! I feel stupid now :p

Anyway, I still can't think of any independent ones - all I can think of or all I've found are the large chains (Goldsmiths, Earnest Jones etc).

Sorry to hijack the thread but Rotty I'd like to ask you for an opinion:

I've narrowed my watch choice down to two: 1. Tag Carrera Chrono, or 2. Omega PO 42mm. At this point, on a personal level in terms of look and feel, I think I like both equally.

I can get the Tag brand new with full Tag Warranty for £1050 (one benefit of working in F1!) or if I shop around I ought to be able to get the PO new for £1750-1800. Do you think the PO is worth the extra money (the Omega brand, the movement, resell value, etc)?

A Tag will be worth around 50% of RRP as soon as you walk out the door though the Carerra fares better then some as long as it is an auto

A PO will hold 60+ % long term

In terms of quality there is no comparision the Omega is a class above, better made, better movement etc

of course personal taste comes into and the extra discount you would get but on a like for like basis the the Omega is the better choice by a huge margin IMO

Re ADs and warranty then this varies from brand to brand, Tag will honour warranty on watches bought from grey sources, Omega will not so best to always check
