My wife/work got me the below watch for Christmas. Can anyone with experience of this model/similar models answer a few questions I have.

http://www.omegawatches.com/gents/seamaster/planet-ocean-chrono/22105000

No matter how much I move the watch during wear it only seems to work for a maximum a 4-6 hours over night before it stops. In fact it’s even started to lose 2-3 minutes over a 3-4 hour time frame during normal wear. I've tried winding it but nothing seems to extend the power reserve.

Omegas website indicates 52 hour power reserve, which I accept may be a bit on the optimistic side, but surely there must be something wrong with this watch?

Also I know it comes with a warranty from Omega, if there is something wrong with it do I have to accept a repair from Omega, or can I request a replacement/full refund from Goldsmiths (where it was purchased)

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

power reserve should be easily 40hr plus

inaccuracy is best left to settle as many watches do not achieve their best for around 3months

however f that is all the power reserve you are getting them it isn't right

give it a full wind, about 50 turns, then wear all day and if not holding power then take it back

if it was only bought at Xmas then a replacemnt shoudl be no problem

Thanks again guys, I'll give your advise a go and take it from there.

*Cue the should have got a 10 quid casio watch with a battery brigade* :p

As said, definitely sounds wrong. Had my PO for 2 weeks now and it's been holding power no problems.

Goldsmiths should take it back as it's not been long at all and is obviously faulty from the outset.

doesn't sound right, my breitling super ocean auto never needs winding i've had it for 5 years now and have never wound it up ,i do wear it everyday though.
it runs about 5 minutes slow after about a month, a new mechanical can take a few weeks to settle but that doesn't seem right, i'd take it back and see what they say.

Quick update

As the watch only managed 4 hours last night before it stopped again and lost 7 minutes between 8am and 11am this morning, I called Goldsmiths today and they agreed that on the information provided there would appear to be an issue with it.

So I went back to Goldsmiths this afternoon, and they advised they would need to send the watch back to Omega as a warranty claim. I'm going to give them the opportunity to repair it and haven't pushed for a replacement yet, however I made it clear that I'm not going to accept ongoing issues.

The lady I was dealing with did confirm they store all their automatic watches without charge (which I suppose makes sense as they are displayed in the shop window without the hands moving) and its this storage method which can mean it takes 4-6 weeks before the watch is functioning within Omega guidelines, however by now the power reserve should be enough to keep time for 20-30 hours without wear, and general day to day wear should be enough to keep the watch powered without having to resort to manually winding the watch.

I did chuckle a bit over the way they treat you when you've got an expensive item though. Comfy chair sir? Tea or coffee sir? A selection of biscuits sir? Can't say they were the same when we purchased my wife’s some what cheaper watch from there. That and the  faces of the other customers who were not being given the same treatment.

Yeah I got the same treatment, funny how people act when you're about to spend a bit of money. First time I been offer drink at the jewelers.

But on topic my Omega PO worked straight out of the box and after a full wind it should provide up to 48 hrs of power. Also don't they offer a 30 day exchange/money back? I would just get a exchange, omega repairs can take a while.

I would have gone for the exchange too

good choice of watch though, sat with mine on at the moment, very durable , been quad biking in the sahara amongst other stuff wearing mine

I was quoted optimistically 4-6 weeks. Though Goldsmiths did plaster urgent all over the paperwork, whether that will make a difference or not, I don’t know.

Providing Omega sort it out I'm not worried. Fairs fair and all that, they provide a warranty with the watch so only right I give them the opportunity to sort it out. Plus who knows how long Goldsmiths have had the watch in their network. The guy I was dealing with during the initial purchase commented on how long it had been since they had sold that particular model. So much so I don’t think they have bothered getting another one in the branch yet. Worst case scenario I get new parts in the watch (assuming Omega don’t use reconditioned parts), or Omega can’t fix it and I get a replacement.

Doesn't the chrono have the ropier movement compared to the normal PO? :p Or have they sorted that now?

When my PO runs out of juice, like if I've been decorating for a couple of days or something, I normally give it 20 full winds (360 degrees) and it's immediately flawless as long as I wear it almost every day. Your watch is buggered, don't let them bum you. I'd have insisted on a replacement personally.
