Hi, is this laptop graphic card a MaxQ variant or fully fledged?, doesn't really mention what it is compared to other laptop discriptions.

I think the Omen 17 comes with the MAX-P version.

why does OCUK have two versions of this and one states 2080super MaxQ (the 15inch) over the other advertised one just 2080super (possibly a maxP/unknown?) (17inch)

I have the 17 inch and it is indeed a 150W MaxP.

Simple, HP Omen are ALWAYS MaxP in the 17" performance chassis, and maxQ in the 15" more portable version.
This was the original intent of MaxP v MaxQ before it got bastardised...

Enjoy, I've got the previous gen version and it's a great machine; as was my 7700HQ Omen 17 as well
I've had a number of gaming laptops over the years and these have generally just been reliable which is all I can ask for. The cheap warranty pack upgrades are also nice. If you've not bought extended warranty, well worth having it when you're spending so much!

hi, i got it today direct from HP, outstanding service, just done a Horizon Zero benchmark on Ultimate settings and it's giving my 86fps average,
and yes i got the 3yr warrenty discounted as i got the omen mouse as a package

The GE66 Raider with 2080 is Max Q, so BIG performance hit (essentially lower than a 2070 Super Max P in some titles, slightly above in others). GS66 Stealth is also MaxQ. There is a GE66 with the 2070 which appears to be non Max Q, but you're essentially talking a performance tier down from a 2080, and bear in mind its even more lopsided when you compare with desktops due to the power limitations.
I absolutely hate the drive to put Max Q in even the bigger, bulky gaming laptops. It reeks of shortcut so they can cut the powerbricks and cooling requirements down (and therefore COST), sod the performance hit, despite charging an arm and a leg.
To my mind the Omen 17s are currently the best value gaming laptops from a big brand, simply because they commit properly with a Max P GPU, and the warranty upgrade options aren't terribly expensive.
(HP Tech Support are slow like most, but once you can get an RMA through they get the job done reasonably, so ~£99 for a 3 year warranty on a machine of this size/expense/heat and performance are no brainers to my mind, as IMO machines with this level of silicon/power consumption and heat will either run fine for a long time, or die in a ball of fire and cooked circuitry well within that 3 years
)

Great stuff. Unfortunately I don't have the game or I'd give you a side by side to see how far my overclocked 2080 was from your Super, albeit from everything I know, the 2080 Max P and 2080 Super Max P are pretty equivalent performance (hence Nvidia discontinuing the 2080 unlike the 2060 and 2070), so it may just be a CPU boost...if that, once you take my GPU OC into account [which is a curve of roughly +150 on the GPU, and +1000 on the memory, I suspect the core would go further with more voltage/power but alas, locked down too much to get it boosting higher/supplied more volts)
My current best firestrike and timespy are in my signature though, the score varies a bit due to heat/power/boost variance but I'm usually within ballpark ie 21000+ on Firestrike instead of 22069.
Pretty damn happy with the machine given the price I got it on with the Black Friday sales last year.
My only criticism of the Omens is how damn locked down the BIOS is for such a high end gaming machine.
