Ok, just got my new 1GB ram Corsair XMS through and i already had a Corsair XL stick. I was putting in my new ram and took out the old corsair so i had more room. So i put the three sticks back in, had a bit of a problem with the XL stick but thought "it'll be ok!!". Turn the computer on.....nothing on screen, then i started smelling a sort or burning. and i was like 'hmmm *** is that....OH ****!'. I remembered the smell - it was when i used to work with PCB and it got burnt. So turned power of straight away, took out the XL and it was baking hot (the comp had only been on for about 10 seconds) i could barely touch it. anyway i cooled it down and looked on the connector bit at the bottom of the ram and a huge black mark where it was burnt. But yet, it still works!!!

Moral of story: Never wait when you smell burning PCB on expensive ram.
