Well just bought a second hand hard drive , and its full of folders and files already whats the most worrying is i have sold hard drives to cex myself in the past . I now have nearly 10gb of data and its only checked 2% of the drive i have passport scans , bank statements ,credit card scans , tenancy agreements like all the most personal of stuff . What do you reckon i should do , i want compensating for the potential loss i may have suffered from my drives , and this poor family there stuff is going nowhere, do i tell the police they should compensate me i know thats a cheap deal but i have sold god knows how many drives formatted to them thinking they would format them stupid i know but when you strip your computer you think that a quick format is enough

or do i tell the previous owner let them sue the arse of cex , sorry for the bad punctuality i am so shocked at what i have found

My head hurts reading that, but from what I can make of it, just wipe it. Dont get your knickers in a twist. Any right minded person should make sure their drives are completely erased before selling them on.

Why is it CEXs responsibility?

They sell the drive with the information on to CEX? Hardly their fault? Or am I missing something

isn't it wrong though that i have like a full families Identity, is asking for compensation like blackmail very dodgy ground

The drive obviously hasn't been wiped if all that info is on it. Your security shouldn't be CEX's responsibilty, it's your own.

I'm failing to understand something here, why do you want compensation? You bought a HDD and you have a working HDD. Just format it and get on with your life.

Also, I fail to understand how finding somebody's data on second hand HDD can have an adverse effect on your punctuality. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say that if you know it's bad then why didn't you fix it before posting?

Im confused. Did you sell drives to CEX without formatting them yourself and now want compensating for for the odd chance that they didn't format them before selling them on?

I now have nearly 10gb of data and its only checked 2% of the drive

Hmm, so CEX just deleted the partitions or did a quick format and you're actively recovering the files because they weren't wiped and over-written?

Hmm No, I'm not sure I'd go telling the police or the previous owners about that.

The person who sold the drive is at fault in my eyes, however, saying that, suppose the drive was stolen or it was taken out of a stolen computer, I guess there wouldn't be a way to know which scenario is true.

Therefore I'd just wipe it and get on with my life because honestly, there is no point in stressing about it.

This has to be a troll, nobody could be that stupid.

but when you strip your computer you think that a quick format is enough

Apparently so.

I now have nearly 10gb of data and its only checked 2% of the drive

Why are you recovering the data from the drive?
Zero wipe it and get on with it, what possessed you to recover the data anyway?
