:( very very unhappy :(

in short, ive woke up this morning for a good nites sleep, only to turn my computer on ( which was working last night ) to discover it wont boot and i have a " no signal detected " message on the monitor with blank screen, fans work etc etc
i took both my 5870's out reseated them, still nothing, tried one card, nothing, then the other, nothing. done a bit of googleing and read someone with same issue tried taking ram out on stick at a time, ive done that im down from 6 gig to 2 gig and it works !!
now one thing i do remember last night is in the system details screen, were it gives you your windows raiting etc etc it said installed ram 6gig ( 4gig usable ), found it strange, rebooted ( 2 gig usable ) at this point id had enuff as ive been trying to sort my ssd out all day, so i went to bed, then all this **** happened.
so
is my ram bust ?

Have you done the basics like reset the cmos?

Phil

Simplest way is to unplug all the power from the computer, take out the little battery in the motherboard for 3 minutes and then put it back in and it should forget all its setting and boot up fresh.

It may work or may not, but try that and if it does work go into the bios and load "optimised defaults".

phil,
what will this prove ? by doing this
do i do this with all 3 memory sticks in or just the 1 stick that seems to make it boot ?

thanks for help so far, im very very very grateful !!!!!

Do one stick at at time. By boot do you mean windows? Because you boot from cd to do memtest only need post screen.
sorry i mean, i press power button then i get no signal detected with all 6 sticks in.
with the 1 thats in now, it boots fine

i think im meaning post, it wont post with 6 sticks, no signal detected is the message and a blank screen on the monitor and the power button is red and not green ( monitor )

If it doesn't post then your right, Memtest isn't an option, so try the CMOS reset mentioned earlier mate.

It removes any settings from the bios that may stop it from booting.

Currently your looking at your memory when it could simply be a silly cmos error stopping it booting.

i will try this but can you just explain to me what this will do ? and do i do it with all sticks in or just the 1 that seems to make the system post

ok many thanks, battery out for 3 mins back in, end this nightmare !
all i wanna do is play bc2!!!!

right, cmos reset, all bois back to default
tried to booted with 6 gig and no post, booted with the 2 gig stick and it posts, tried both of the other sticks individually and no post

As unlikely as it sounds that 2 RAM sticks died at the same time, it could have happened... are they still under warranty?

Looking at your sig I guess the system was overclocked a fair bit, was the RAM overclocked/overvoltaged?

the ram was at normal volts as far as im aware, all i did was oc the cpu and thats it
it can take upto 2.2 it says
so are we thinking its the ram ? im off to ocuk by the looks of it

Did you change any voltages on the memory?

Phil

i changed the bios setting from auto to 2.1 as i was getting endless bsod's
when the voltage was upped i had no more bsod

can we safely say its the ram then ? as im gonna have to drive over from chester this afternoon to get some more

What memory do you have please?

Its not covered by warranty, i dont think. OCZ memory is rated to 1.65V under warranty 2.1V was mad mate if your using a 6GB Kit.
