OmG...system shut down in 60seconds virus? back again cause iv got it!

If your feeling brave, going into command prompt, and type services.msc, then go down to RPC (remote procedure call), open it, then on the recovery tab, select 'take no action'...Theoretically it should stop the computer restarting.

Click download removal tool at the top, oh, and turn off system restore just incase.

That's presuming you have the blaster worm obviously :p

did u ever get infected by the blaster worm ?
new install ...no firewall enabled and u were infected in minutes.
new install...internet unplugged....install firewall...enable internet and all was fine.

now explain your above sentence

When the blaster worm was in full flow I was responsible for several networks which had infections. So yes I dealt with infections.

Network propergation is just one attack vector for the worm. It could also be spread via floppies, CD-Rs, downloads from email and other sites etc. All of which a firewall wouldn't prevent.

no it wouldnt stop you from installing it......but it would stop your computer getting infected on its own.

which without a firewall would happen....without any user interaction.

Ive seen this before that was hit Windows XP and Ive been hit this last time and you need to unplug the RJ45 from Broadband modem first then clean full format and reinstall then start again and then plug RJ45 then update Windows and then AV/Anti-Spyware then update latest database,etc.. then use AV in deep scan and then anti-spyware as well so that will be ok later

Firewall dont stop the infection into your PC it like bypass something like jump over the firewall area and hit your PC. I was hit this blaster worm many time but clean up and then back to normal -- update Windows,AV and Anti-Spyware will clean up the mess and then switch off Restore Point.

Reformat Windows? Are you mad? This 'virus' is minor, especially if you catch it early.

Do this:

If your feeling brave, going into command prompt, and type services.msc, then go down to RPC (remote procedure call), open it, then on the recovery tab, select 'take no action'...Theoretically it should stop the computer restarting.

I had this on one of my early builds, cleaned the system, and carried on using that same install for atleast a couple more years...No issues what so ever.
