I got so fed up not being able to charge my phone I tried the stripped usb cable method of using a standard usb cable and connecting the + and - to the pins where the battery goes.

My mouse and keyboard stopped working immediately no red light on mouse etc so i rebooted and now I get no display output have tried clearing cmos and unplugging everything.

It's an msi p55 gd80 have also tried each ram stick on its own but still no post to display everythings spinning and the led says FF fully functional.

any ideas ? have i fried something ? the usb curcuit ? when i power up the mouse doesnt light up either

nope no good everthings spinning up no error codes but monitor doesnt come on weird

I really wouldn't recommend charging a phone battery straight from USB 5v :S assuming your skipping all the charging circuitry.

spoke too soon

im leaving it on its running but not posting til after 5 mins the msi screen comes on and i get the 2tb infinity screen which i dont use then it goes to a black screen with no bootable device press any key to reset
i press any key nothing happens hmm

Well it cant be the cpu right as i am running memory diagnostic tool ? that wouldnt work and it wouldnt even boot if it were the cpu or gpu right ? has to be the board ive damaged ? the keyboard isnt working under ps2.I can get to startup repair and run that as it auto selects it after i cant hit down arrow to start windows normally

the mouse is working via usb

after running windows repair which it cant fix i get the option to shutdown or reboot after that same thing takes 5 mins to boot to the msi flash screen where i can hit f2

the motherboard ports have fuses, you need to disconnect the power completely (unplug from wall socket), hold power switch for 30s or so to try and drain as much power as possible and then leave the computer disconnected from the mains for an hour or so. If this doesn't work then try the same again but leave the computer disconnected overnight.

pretty sure ive blown the board even though i got FF on startup which means cpu fully functional i think i did leave it unplugged overnight tried a new cheap gpu today and another psu

so hard to get hold of a p55 1156 board too ah well

it comes on after 5 mins but i get stuck on the pre bios screen says keyboard interface error cmos settings wrong cmos date/time not set

press f1 to run setup
press f2 to load default values and continue but it doesnt work
its a new keyboard too a usb one

maybe ill try connecting a front usb header to the board
or maybe ive corrupted the bios hmm

Did you connect to the external pins on the phone or the internal connections right by the battery?

The only way you should do that kind of damage connecting to the external socket is if you accidentally short circuited them and that shouldn't really take out anything other than the USB circuit itself which is usually protected/fused.

If you connected to the battery directly thats a very bad idea and all kinds of damage can be done either to the battery or PC or both.

Would there be a way to auto flash the bios via usb without access to the bios screen?
