My mum gave me a lift in to collage today as my bicycles tyres were punctured.
well we decided that the car may do with a little fuel topup on the way, so we pull up into a petrol station and there she is getting off the car and opening the flap to the fuel hole thing.
my mum calls my name and asks.... "wheres the fuel cap? " i reply 'what' from the confusion to the idiocity to the question my mum asks. i get out of car and look at the hole and think holy crap how long have we been running like this!
I think it was missing for about a months or so... its not easy to get to the actuall fuel so i doubt someone stole any petrol but still...
its a nissan almera GTi and now am wondering how much it will cost to replace one. and also where can i get one?
thanks ray

Your mum blonde? You sure she hasn't left the cap on a petrol pump and just closed the flap without putting it back? or do you mean the flap has been ripped off as well? only way I can see anyone being able to steal the cap.

my parents have almost no interest in what there driving ...

They just want to keep the current car for as long as possible. o yeah and to keep it clean.

so i guess there are no good websites to get them from.... *drags out yellow pages in reluctant manner*

na my mums japanese so theres no way shis blonde :D
well she opened the flap and looked at the hole and thought whers the cap. the flapps only been open when refueling and there is a sneeking suspicion it may be my dad that last refueled the car :D:D
this is starting to look interesting:)

lol. either way were pretty sure it was my dad. now his in japan right now and we dont know when his getting back so... well lotsa complains coming his way.

so about not having fuel caps... does it do anything negarive to the car?

Your mum's never driven in the US has she?

my parents are the same lol,
my dads car has missed its second service so instead of doing it at 20k it was done at 30k (its due every 10) then numerous others have been done 1-2000 over the specified interval, mums car is just as bad, irregular servicing,
thank god they are toyotas.

my mum phoned to see where she can get one and yes she did find a place.. they sell it for 30 pounds !! thats really expensive for what it does.....
advice for everyone here... dont loose your fuel caps!

Lol

I found a petrol cap on a pump the other day so handed it in at the til. They said they'd just add it to the collection.

How can you forget it? On my current car the thing is attached, but on my old car I always had to double check the cap incase the thing might blow up. :p

lol the collection. \
the thing wont blow up just because there isnt a fuel cap will it?

If a source of ignition got close enough to the mouth of the filler it's quite possible, especialy with a relatively empty fuel tank that has lots of vapour in it.

you can get universal filler cap replacements cheaply from halfords etc. My citroen has a little holder behind the bodywork flap to put it in so i never forget it.

Yeah I lost one on my old car :o

My grandad had doen the same when he owned it and went into the garage he left it and just picked one that looked right. Did the job though!

I've lost mine before. Managed to get hold of a completely different fuel cap for a Honda (I own a Suzuki). Fitted perfectly.
