Jesus christ there are some thick companies out there!!!

Im trying to get In Memoriam setup properly on my PC. It installed fine and im only having problems creating a login as i just get some error about conenction problems!

however, searching Ubisofts tech support for the game i came across this:

absolute stupidity

We recommend that you turn of you firewall entirely when playin In Memoriam.
If that is not acceptable you may try opening only for port 80. For information on how to open ports in your router/firewall please consult your router/firewall manual or contact the manufacturer. If opening for port 180 doesn't solve the internet issue you must turn of the firewall entirely.

You have to be online to be able to play the game!! I cant believe that they are advising people to turn off their security!!

So erm, have you tried turning it off?

I am not going to turn off my firewall to play an ONLINE game that makes hours feel like minutes and can take a week to finish! My PC would be hacked well before i got half way through.

I know its not the firewall or antivirus because im using the exact same setup from the last time i played the game.

The game is a few years old now so im trying to find out whether they even have the reg servers still up and running as ive tried to login with my g/fs account (which has never been uninstalled) and cant get in with that either!

My main point is that they are telling people to go online with no firewall protection as there are people out there that dont know any better!

I have tried with firewall off for 2 mins but its made no difference, same with AntiVirus.

I am aware that updates make it harder to access my PC but i have some confidential info on my PC and cant take the risk of someone getting in!

The only times ive ever had trouble with my firewall was with the new SWG demo and some games crash when trying to go online. Thats just a case of then giving access to the program and then no worries.

I havent got a problem because i know my way around a PC, however my concern is for people who buy prebuilt PCs who dont know the mouse from the scanner! They wouldnt know the problems that could arise from having your firewall turned off and i doubt they would know enough to make sure that their OS is up-to-date.

Like ive said i need the firewall and virus checker on PC, one of my younger brothers works for a software company that handle confidential customer info and until he gets his own PC he uses mine.

Part of the deal of him working from home is that the PC is secured.

Nothing i can do about it!
