omg

Do other games run similarly?

Latest graphics drivers?

New build? Installed your chipset drivers?

Oblivion is an absolute mare for sucking down GPU resources. No way around it.

If you really want playable framerates, you need an 8800GTX. The GTX gains much more against a crossfire x1900 setup in Oblivion than it does with any other game, and it still struggles a bit when it gets busy.

Strange I get nice and playable FPS in it, system is the same as the ops pretty much.

I really dont think you need a 8800 just to get playable frame rates.

Blimey... I was only joking with my post!!!!!

I use the spec in my sig, and usually get 24-44 fps outside and 40-60 fps inside.

I had issues with this game from day one in that it would play fine until the first bad guy appeared where it would hang for about 10 seconds... and would do it again when all the bad guys on the screen died.

Couldn't fix the problem and gave up without ever getting more than 10min into the game, a real shame but what can i say.. console port

I can get quite playable framerate from my rig, connected to a 1080P (aa disabled) pretty darn smooth, in fact I think it's smoother than 1680x1050 with AA.

I've about the same setup as you, just 1gig of ram rather than 2 tho. must be a setup error tho as it plays fine here! checked drivers etc?

What  ? You don't anything fancy to pay oblivion, I've used an X1800XT and a 7900GTX to play quite happily at 1280x1024 with HDR and 16xAF on, with a shedload of texture mods.

agreed. even my 7800gtx ran it well on 1280x1024 with the AA up and everything set to medium/high

Alough I do not monitor my fps. Oblivion runs nice and smooth and great graphics, maxed out along with texture mods and other mods, and I have 1GB RAM.

I remember mine having the hangup every time an enemy comes onto the screen (pause for about 3 seconds). It was REALLY annoying.

I looked it up on the internet and found it was to do with the some obscure audio freeware I had, uninstalled it and it worked fine with near enough full settings (on a worse comp!)

:)

i've a lowly 7600GT (don't laugh) when I let the game autoselect my vid options it didn't run past 3 fps I found I had to adjust the settings downwards. What i did was start at the lowest settings and up them slowly until I found the right combination.

There was a great guide on pc answers forums about this you should try there.
