I did quite a bit of Googling and haven't come up with results. And, since I'm back at v16 with Omnipage, they aren't supporting me anymore.
I am using Omnipage 16 with an HP Scanjet G3110 scanner and have been quite happy with the results. I recently upgraded my OS (From Vista x64 to Windows 7 Ultimate x64) and all the programs on top of it. Now, when I attempt to use Omnipage with the TWAIN driver, it attemts to launch the HP Scanning software, which results in an error "The function you have requested cannot be performed because another program already has control of the device."
If I switch to the Omnipage WIA driver, it works just fine, but the (edit: grayscale) graphics quality is horrible.
I have attempted to remove the HP Scanning software, but unfortunately the drivers are a part of that package and the scanner no longer works after.
Are there any suggestions on how I can give Omnipage exclusive access to the scanner?
edit again: here is a sample "before" document:

and here is a sample "after" document using the Nuance WIA driver.

You can really see a difference in the grayscale images.
