On a car check, is the original dealership classed as an owner?

Hi all,

If a car is purchased new, will the check such as on here : http://www.thecheck.co.uk/ show up as the car having one owner or zero?

It'll have zero previous owners, as long as it wasn't pre-registered by the dealer.

Possibly but they usually only do that in special circumstances.

I went to see a car earlier and was under the impression it only had one owner, and the garage owner did tell me it was a Honda "demo car", and there was a special note on the first page of the log book. Wish I could tell somehow if Honda could be one of the 2 owners.

It'll tell you the name and address of the previous owner on the V5.

If it was a demo it would have to have been registered by the garage.

it does, which looks kosher, so there are 2 possibilites, 1) Honda registered it before him, and 2) the V5 I saw wasn't the current one.

A lot of dealerships will register cars that haven't been sold that they are holding "in stock" just before a financial year end and just before the new registrations come out.
They know they can easily just knock around £500 - £750 off the price as some people don't care about having the latest registration number and in improves that dealerships sales figures

Dealers don't count toward the # of previous owners. Even 2nd hand car dealers, so long as they got the paperwork right.

although not unheard of

vauxhall have pre-registered all the VXR8s left in the country, and built the bathurst special editions in readyness for the new model.

Wow, one thing in Jersey that is clear!

Our "V5" (VRD) says whether it was a dealer or not.

For Example mine is Previous Owners - 2 (1 dealer)

It's actually quite common for dealers to pre-reg. Dealership over by me do it loads for end of month sales quotas and stuff, then knock a few quid off to sell them :cool:

when a car trader (garage) buys a car, do they get a new V5 when the yellow section is sent off by the previous owner?
