What is the best way of making a watchable DVD out of a collection of XViD files?
Do I change them to mpegs first or is there Mac software to format and burn?

What I do for my family holiday movies is use Flip4Mac to allow iMovie & iDVD to view and edit them ... then simply burn a dvd using iDVD, simple.

That's for .wmv though, although if that works all you need to do is go and download DivX for Mac (which allows you to play DivX/XviD through Quicktime) and use iMovie and iDVD :)

Not sure if it'll be any use to you, but it's probably at least worth mentioning - VisualHub is another great video conversion tool, although not free it's well worth the small amount to get the full version.

I had a dual G5, and the process i used went something like:

1. Open file in Quicktime player, File -> Export or save to DVD file, or mpeg (or something)

2. Open Idvd, drag the files created in 1. to idvd.

3. Click burn.

(I can't remember the exact file types/ but use a short clip and you can test the whole thing in a few minutes.)

Thanks - this is the option list I get if I try to export - no mention of MPEG or DVD.......... :(

Hello :D

So iMove could convert them to DVDs?

This is one of the areas that I have to return to mylaptop and I can't use my mac.

Fearboy I think he means convert to a compatible video format for DVD eg mpeg 4 I think.

Sorry to be OT but is there a program like DVDShrink for mac?

Cheers :D

This is how I am doing it..............

1. Use Mpeg2works 4 to batch process the XviD files to Mpeg2 files and mp2 files.

2. Used Mpeg2works 4 to make a Video_TS folder with the vob chapters in.

3. DVD2OneX2 then shrinks the Video_TS folder to fit onto a single DVD.

Eh voila!
