On board line in, PC sounds through a DAC at the same time?

I like to play my console while using my PC at the same time, i want to be able to listen to both through the same headphones.

I've currently got my PS4 hooked up to one of my monitors, which happens to have a speaker/headphone out port. I've connected a aux cable from my PC monitor to my PC line in, and then have it playing through my DAC while using my PC at the same time, watching Twitch streams and movies etc.

So my DAC now has two sound sources playing through my headphones which is from the PC line in, and regular PC usage at the same time.

I'm no sound tech nut, but will this damage my headphones or my DAC in anyway?

Are there any specs for input levels, millivolts or whatever you can check for your DAC?

I'd guess it should be ok though not knowing your specs I can't guarantee that.

Just don't go blasting everything at full volume all the time is my recommendation.

I'd get a switch and feed both the pc audio out and the monitor audio out directly to the headphones and have a switch on the headphone cable/s that allows me to choose which input I want.
Couldn't be too difficult to set that up.

2x3.5mm jack audio cables running from the pc and monitor to a stereo twin 3.5mm adaptor, then a male/female adaptor to get your headphones hooked up and away you go.

I'm not getting this...

You have Line in (from PS4) mixing with what?

Your E10K is a USB DAC/amp which will bypass your onboard / sound card, which is why I'm puzzled about your signal paths.

He has a line out from his monitor going to the PC line in so he's feeding two signals to his DAC at the same time,I think.

Think its time to fire up paint.

Keep in mind i'm using both PS4 and PC at the same time, which is being sent through my DAC.

So its 2 sound sources played at the same time sent through to my DAC.

Your DAC only sees the PC.

Which combines the two sound sources and sends it as one to the DAC.

Your pc wont send some freakish high power signal just because its got another sound source.

Right ok, so its fine then? Just a bit worried because the setup seems a bit ghetto, though it seems to work very well.

Got it now, I was having a senior moment earlier :D
As has been said, you and your E10K are perfectly safe doing this.

Does the windows sound pop up allow you to listen to the line in and another sound source on your pc at the same time?

I'd have thought you would have to select default device between line in and whatever else you use.

Yes. Line in is set to default, but as that comes under recording, the DAC is still set to default under playback, so still functions normally as if line in were not being used. You set the recording device to listen, and then send that audio to whatever selected output; in this case the E10K.

I'd guess you don't have them both going full blast very often then, but as Hotwired says above if it's outputting one signal level then that's what it is doing.
