on board sound problems

I recently upgraded my computer with a new i5 750, asus p7p55d pro board and ram, but i cant seem to get the on-board sound to work. It will only has options to output though hdmi or s/pdfi. All i want is to output it though speakers

It might sound daft, but are the speakers actually plugged in? Strange for onboard sound not to show unless it has been disabled in the bios

where tare the hdmi or s/pdif options you mention, in the BIOS or windows?

What sound related things do you see in device manager?
