On board soundcard problem

I am using on board at the moment, and when playing any sound there is a background noise similar to wind blowing onto a microphone. Does anyone know if this is the soundcard or the speakers please?

Have you tried muting microphone, makign sure there are no audio effects turned on?

Yes I have thanks, and it made no difference. Having had it for a week it appears to have stopped now.
