On board - System Performance?

I've heard somewhere that on board sound actually drags system performance down, sometimes by as much as 10%, is that true?

I've got on-board, and i'm using it, but i'm thinking of spending some money on some decent sounds to connect to my hi fi.

Depends on the onboard chip/what type of audio is being used/the spec of the rest of the system.
For the most part, the difference isnt all that much.
I personally wouldnt worry about it.
My Audigy failed a few months ago, im using onboard, and i cant see a difference in performance at all.
