On board vs Sound card

Hello,

I am building a computer, the motherboard has on-board sound card. I am unsure wether or not to purcahse a seperate sound card instead, for games.

I will only have a simple 2 speaker 1 bass system. I have been told that onboard sound cards are pretty good nowadays and would be fine. However, I am aware that onboard sound can decrease system performance if used, while a seperate sound card has its on processor. Also, "creative" is percieved by nearly all gaming businesses as a standard, so onboard sound may have issues. Would i be better getting the cheapish creative card for £35?

regards,

IMHO, it you could just stick with your onboard sound card at the beginning while you hunt for a bargain OEM X-Fi (can be had to 50-ish).

The onboard sound will most likely work with games, nor will the performance hit be that great in reality. But a proper sound card will be better :)

I thought the same.
In the end i went for the onboard sound, and will add another card if the performance isn't up to scratch.
No point spending money if you don't need to :D
