I was just wondering as I sit here on my day off, stroking my debit card.., if Xfire would really be a substantial difference. I get around 40FPS on Crysis with a single 4870 1GB on Gamer settings. What would I be looking at in FPS terms if I had another 4870 1GB added to Xfire the rig.

Atm your running @ full x16 for 1 card,But if you add another then it will drop to x8/x8.
also what resolution do you play?anything under 1680 x 1050,theres no real need to add a second card.

Ok.So when you get a new monitor you will be playing on 1920 x 1200 which at this point you could add a 2nd 4870 and see a difference.
If you can find a 4870 cheap enough then definately go CF with it.

Crysis at 1920x1200, 4xAA, all settings maxed very nicely with 4870X2, so you should see a decent improvement.

I saw very little improvment if at all over a single 4870 in crysis with my current setup. As bradley said, other games run nice but if crysis is the be all and end all for you i would suggest selling your existing card and buying a new GTX280. Nvidia's seem to do really well but then again you know this ;)

Is this the case on all intel based motherboards? e.g. my x38???
