Onboard Adapter stopped working!

Yesterday i tried to install Ubuntu 10.04 on 2nd HDD. Unfortunately I think my DVD-RW Drive is knackered and I got an I/O read error while installing, the drive then crashed and i reset the PC.

When I reloaded Windows 7 the on-board Realtek Network Adapter has stopped functioning, it is acting as though there is no ethernet cable connected, but there is. There are no problems with any other parts of the connection as I have installed a seperate PCI Network card and that is what I am using now...but what the hell has happened to it?

So far i have rolled back the drivers, updated the drivers, I even tried re-installing Ubuntu without aborting out of it to see if that helped but can not figure out what has happened.

guys i really need some help with this im getting nowhere.

It is a Realtek RTL8112L built in to Asus M4A785TD-M evo.

I have scoured the net and tried a few suggestions but im now at a point where Device Manager shows Code 10 - The device can not start.

Please help.

Im having a very similar problem with my Asus P5 ql pro board, except my adapter isn't even detected...
Thread can be seen bit below this one, I've had a look about and this does seem like quite a common problem, looks like a Network card is the best/only option.

On device manager have you selected View Hidden Devices and see if it shows up then?

I have connection working with a NIC but this can't be the only option. I don't understand what has happened to it. One minute its fine, the next its dead. Mine shows up, if i disable it and re-enable it, it tells me it cannot start, then when i restart PC its back again saying its working properly, only it isn't.
