Been using my new Asus M5A97 LE.R2, was browsing the internet last night and heard a loud pop come from the motherboard. I shut the pc down and powered it back on again this morning to find there was no sound whatsoever ever! even the case speaker did not do its little beep on boot like it usually does! I have reinstalled drivers and even live booted ubuntu to make sure it wasn't a driver problem. The cases front audio jacks and the motherboards rear audio jacks make no sound at all and the speakers used work as i tested them on my laptop. My turtle beach's on-board amp (it has an external sound card built in) works when it is set as the default device on the computer so it is obviously the motherboards audio chip that has failed and cause the pop to come from the pc. I only got the motherboard 3 weeks ago and had no problems up till now!

Either way I messaged the place i bought it from and I'm waiting for a reply. Anyone know of a okay sound card for under £15 which I will be ble to connect my cases front audio connectors up too? It has a AC'97 and HD AUDIO, they look the same though.

Xonar DG/DGX. There is a cheaper Soundblaster VX card for £12, but it has no front audio connector; plus it's not a patch on the DG/DGX which isn't that much more.
