Onboard graphics + 24" screen: will it work?

Will the onboard graphics of a 630i based motherboard be capable of driving a 24" screen without problems? It will be used for general 2D work and occasional movies/video.

It will work.

Just don't try to use it for anything for graphically intensive than tetris.

Yes it will work and i wish you many hours of fun with solitaire .

Might strugle with DVD/BlueRay movies if its intel onboard graphics.

Will be fine for windows, basic apps.

Err, it might do. It might not.

Depends on the the resolution you want to run, and the resolution of the monitor. We have a SFF box that runs 1280x1024 max. That will look pants on a 24" monitor.

What is the max supported resolution for the 630i you have?

Why not get a gfx card that will make your 24 incher look good. Honestly I would be amazed if it could run anything above 720p media.

if its a 630i board it will be 6200 onboard which will be capable of 1920x1200 on the 24"

Unless you're trying to decode BluRay with it, it'll be fine.

I'm using 630i integrated graphics with a Dell 2408 (as a temporary solution). The Aero interface in Windows 7 is slow so I would not recommend this as a long term solution. I can however play 1080p mkv files without any problems.

A newer 730i or G4x motherboard would probably be much faster but for that additional cost, you could buy something like a radeon 3650 which is still quite power efficient and much faster.

That's because the 8300m has a decoder built in, where as the 6200 does not.
