My motherboard has onboard graphics, Nvidia 8300. Is that naff? I was thinking of getting a better stand alone card but wanted it to be passive. Anyone able to advise? My mobo is an Asus m3n78-em.

depends on usage for 2d gaming that would be fine. anything else will need more power what res you play at? and what sort of games?

The Nvidia onboard graphics is a tonne better than the intel ones - so you did pretty well there. But to pass judgement I would need to know how you plan to use the system.

If its just desktop use and movies it does the job fine (even does Blu-Ray supposedly). However, if you plan on playing modern games it is not powerful enough.

This is the highest spec passive card I can find. If you need something cheaper - this will get you by in some modern games.

Depend what you want it for. I've got a board with an 8100 on it which plays morrowind beautifully, so they're not all bad
