I have an onboard ethernet on my old shuttle. Its Realtec 8100c chipset.

It's not working, no lights, no connection, no matter what I try.

Is it dead?

I need two ethernet sockets, but I only have 1 pci socket, any suggestions?

How come you need two Ethernet cards? You can get USB Ethernet adapters, but they won't be quick at transferring. Better than wireless though I guess.

It's Ubuntu sever and I wanted to set it up as a router. So one nic would be connected to the modem, then the other to a switch for the internal network.

Ubuntu recognices the card, the model, chipset and driver, but it just doesn't work. I am pretty sure as there is no lights on the port, it's the port that is dead rather than the chip.

I only have one pci socket, which I have ordered a gigabit card for. Think I might have to use USB for the other port. As connect to the modem, 100mb should be fast enough.
