Onboard or dedicated? Any point for 2D CAD?

This is mainly in relation to laptop graphics but also in desktops to some extent.
If the machine is only used for 2D applications, specifically Autocad and other 2D design apps*, does a dedicated card make any difference at all?

I know Autocad has some kind of tuning built in but not sure what it really does.

*one other specific app is Dialux which is a specialist light calculation app.

Thanks
Andrew

Ran autocad off my laptop and the college's PC. Should be fine unless your using software like Vectorworks etc.
