Onboard SATA III or controller card?

Hi all,

Excuse my ignorance but am looking at adding a SATA III SSD to my P7P55D-E Pro and wondered if the "onboard" Marvell SATA III controller would suffice compared to a dedicated controller card? Would I get any significant increase in speeds from using the PCI card or does the onboard controller give me 95% of the performance anyway?

Many thanks!

For a SATA6 SSD, initially just use the onbaord Marvell cont and see how it performs, which (if setup right and working properly) will give you a peformance increase (certainly in reads) over using SATA3 (Intel ICH10R)...
