Got an Asrock Dual Sata with onboard sound (realtek ac97)

Only noticed the noise since fitting a 7800GT but it may of been there before but I *think* it wasn't.

It's livable, but a slight annoyance.

Is it likely to be just the onboard sound causing this humming? I know some older gen Nvidia cards could cause this too.

Could a cheap Audigy be likey to cure the problem?

I am assuming the onboard sound is just picking up electrical noise from other activity on the mobo.

Ouch, so even a new sound card may not help?

It's kind of a humming noise whenever the PC does anything.

Scrolling down a page, a flash anim, HDD being accessed etc.

Being from an electronic background it is definitely some sort of electrical interference from the sound of it.

Try disabling the phone line input. It's enabled by default. My laptop with a Realtek also makes noises when you move the trackerpad. Totally silent after that.

Hey mate, you have lead me to an almost total cure. :D

I had already disabled Line In as Iwondered if that may of been the problem, no joy. :(

Your post lead me back to the Line In control again though....

I went back and un muted it and then played around with the slider for it.

Would you believe that using the slider you can actually "tune" the noise out!!

Too high a volume and it comes back..too low or muted and it comes back!!

Fine "tuning" the slider has got it to the point where I now have to almost strain to hear it!

Ta for sending me the right way on this one bud!

I'm sure this won't work for most people but got to be worth a try for anyone else too. :)
