Hi all,

Just trying to setup an htpc in the living room so the family can watch films down there and iplayer etc but i'm having a slight problem with the sound..

Basically it doesnt work. When I try to install the drivers that come with the mobo on the cd the installer comes up with ERROR: 'We can't find the HD Audio Device'

I have tried multiple versions of the drivers and non seem to work..

Has anyone else had this problem before and if you did how did you resolve it?

cheers

Have checked the BIOS just in case its been disabled for some reason or by accident.

meant to put that in my first post, yes i have checked and it is enabled, I even tried booting into windows with it disabled and then rebooting and re enabling it and trying again... same error. :/

Hmm, bit puzzled, is the windows install new or old, wonder if the install could got corrupted and stopping the install, is it possible to try another hard drive, reinstall Windows and try the drivers.

I know it's obvious, but have you checked it's plug into the right socket etc... ?

the actual jack? yeah ive tried having it plugged into all the different sockets, but I don't think its to do with that, it seems that the driver cant even find the hardware... i saw a thread on another forum suggesting to install the realtek hd audio manager but i cant seem to find the download for the manager, only the drivers which i dont want : /

assuming its:
http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4A78LTM_LE/#download

Then it should be the very bottom left socket as you look at the mobo. Just making sure!

Only thing that I can think of too. That or try a repair with the install DVD?

Its a new install, I have already reinstalled windows because it wasn't working with the same problem. I don't really have another hdd i can use, but it could be the HDD i suppose, it is a 160gb seagate from an old dell dimension 5000 from 2005.

nope its this one http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4A78LTM/

so its the middle socket on the right.

I've had the same issues with my MB after reinstalling windows, have you tried uninstalling all audio drivers and rebooting the machine and let windows reinstall? Worked for me

Yep didn't work.

oops. sorry. Strange one this. The only thing i can think of is that it is broken, but a strange thing to have broken. Ignoring the connector on the board, does the back panel audio work or nothing at all?

Hmm it could be broken I suppose but I've read about other people having this problem, I have only been using the back panel and nothing works.

Might try win xp to make sure that it's just drivers etc.

I have the audio daughterboard from my old striker two formula... Might give that ago if I can't get it working

Can anyone help me on this :( Its really starting to **** me off, I have tried everything. EVERYTHING

Tried:

Reinstalling Win 7 (several times)
Different Win 7 install media (mem stick, dvd etc)
Win XP 32 bit and 64 bit
New HDD
HUNDREDS Of different drivers etc.
Changing from HD to AC '97 and back
enabling/disabling onboard sound in the BIOS
and other things.
