I am currently deciding on the components for my new X99 build and am looking at the Asus X99 range. I currently have a Asus Xonar DX pcie sound card. Is this sound card better than the sound cards that are built into the X99 range?

Did have a cheap xonar card on my z97 rig but the onboard is similar to that on the x99 , can't remmber codec specifics but there pretty similar pieces of kit . Best onboard audio I've ever used .

Hi, I had the same card as you before I moved over to X99 and wondered if the on-board sound was as good/better.

Rest assured it is, the ALC1150 codec is excellent.

i would never buy or even use a discrete sound card unless i was amplifying for a headphone or needed an io port not present...certainly not for 'sound quality' whatever that might be.

your better off buying a decent set of speakers or headphones than worrying about onboard sound, last 2 to 3 years onboard has improved a lot,no interference either from the mb or gpu

I remember x58 suffering badly from that

Having owned a xonar DX which I had to stop using in the board in sig due to sli. I found the onboard audio to be awful by comparison.

I had a xonar dx,i only noticed the extra bass over onboard, but to get the best out of it I was constantly fiddling and tweaking the settings,i don't have to do that with onboard
