Onboard Sound problems

Hey guys,

I built my PC July 09 specs are:

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66GHz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366)
XFX ATI Radeon HD 4890 XT 1024MB GDDR5
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366)
Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz

Ever since the computer was built I have been using the integrated sound on the graphics card through HDMI. Recently I have wanted to start using the onboard sound on my motherboard so I can use the mic on my headset, but for the life of me I can't get it enabled.

When I go into the device manager it does not even detect the realtek chip on the motherboard only the ATI HDMI sound driver. I have searched on google and it says to set onboard sound to enabled in bios but I only have "Auto or Disabled" as my options. The board is rev 1.0 and has not bios updates so this could be an option.

I have also tried disabling GC sound and uninstalling the drivers, then installing the realtek drivers for my motherboard, this just results in me having no sound at all and still not recognised in device manager. Anybody got any suggestions?

Cheers,
Murzo
