On my gigabyte GA_P965_DS3P I dont seem to be able to select 2.1 speakers from anywhere?!?!

Have upto date drivers, but theres only, stereo, quad, 5.1, 7.1 so I have a sub woofer doing nothing!

Any ideas?

Cheers

What sort of speakers do you have and how are they plugged into the audio on the mobo?

I should imagine you just leave it in stereo if you sub is fed from the amp in your speakers if they are PC type speakers.

If your sub has its own line-in cable, use the center/sub socket on the mobo..
Found this on Gigabytes site....

They are Creative speakers and subwoofer, 2.1 system

One jack lead, green, from pc into sub box. Then two cables off to left and right speaker. They used to work on XP with XP drivers, there was a 2.1 setting.

But like I said above, in vista theres only stero, quad, 5.1 and 7.1 settings?!?!

Its becoming reallt frustrating!!

Well, select stereo in vista..
In that case I should think you just plug the green jack into the front speaker/line out socket, and the subwoofers internals will take care of splitting the signal into 2.1

Have you tried that and it doesnt work, is that what your saying?

Thats the one im plugged into. Maybe its working in games, just the sound management programme doesnt show it or test it.

If I got a sound card, would that solve the problem? its obviously a vista thing.

the sound management programme doesnt show it or test it.

It wont, as far as the motherboards concerned, its just stereo speakers plugged in....

When the audio signal reaches the crossover unit inside the sub enclosure, it filters the midrange and high frequencies to the satelites and the lower bass frequencies are fed to the subwoofer.
If you want to adjust the bass, youll have to use the controls on the subwoofer/speakers.
