Onboard tv capability apps vs external box

I've got a Samsung TV I'm currently using the onboard OS with onboard apps for all tv watching, it works "ok"... a little slow here and there but it works. Is there a huge benefit to going to an external box i.e. an apple tv or the firestick route? I've had both in the past and to be honest found them frustrating in different ways.

Thoughts please?

The clunky and pants software on the Samsung tv is one of the reasons I swapped it out for an LG C2.

However, if that is not an option for you then a firestick will accomplish everything you want to do plus a fair bit more.

KODI needs Android on the box so it is an Android box with KODI installed on it.
The Android version of KODI will have been installed on it.

No it doesn't.

How does this help the OP with the main problem being the apps?

Can you install Netflix, Disney, Prime, Apple TV on it? Or is it just for owned media?
Cheap chinese boxes may have DRM issues, especially these non branded boxes.

I presume if proper apps are needed stick to big brand like Nvidia shield

Apologies if it uses CoreElec

I sold my Nvidia Shield and bought 3x Fire Sticks which are just as good except for game playing.
I never played games so didn't need that feature.
The Fire Sticks especially the Max are excellent.

Unless the built in apps are really really annoying you for some reason, I wouldn't waste money on another box just to use the same apps that'll almost certainly come with it's own irritations anyway.

I'm using an Apple TV. It is a game changer. The TV remote controls 90% of the functions and 100% of the important ones. So it's like using the built in apps just seamless and super quick.

Was using built-in apps in my LG E9 till recently, but they started having performance and quality related issues and I switched back to my Nvidia shield pro. Much better performance and an experience compared to before.

If you’ve already used an Apple TV / Fire stick and found them frustrating too it’s probably best just to stick with the TV built-in ones? Personally I use a fire stick max / 4K because while it does have a few annoyances it’s significantly faster than my TV ones
