One Battle After Another

Not even a Trailer Begins Now, but Trailer Next Week?
That's about as annoying as alerts for YouTube videos that don't unlock for another 2 weeks...

Tempted to avoid this one, whatever it's about, purely out of priciple against this marketing ********.
Yea but that's Warner Bros doing it, bet the directors etc hate it as well.
I think I read only Nolan and Cameron have contracts that say they have full control over what trailers etc are done. Even then its prob limited.

Hi.

Has anyone seen this yet? The Guardian has given it 5 stars. I am a bit wary of going by their reviews as they gave Inherent Vice 5 stars and I thought it was garbage.

7/10 this might score more on a second watch.

Yeah i agree, it was entertaining enough but i was expecting more considering the hype. Leo was brilliant and at times very funny. The supporting cast had a good performance particularly Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro and Chase Infiniti (what a crazy stage name).

Just back from seeing this. It’s chaotic and pretty fast moving at times - things change rapidly. Leo’s stoner vibe makes it feel like The Big Lebowski as a serious thriller. It’s kinda weird rooting for the good guys when they’re basically domestic terrorists… it’s like the good guys are bad, and the bad guys are even worse. The score is very good - borderline relentless at times.

Chase Infiniti (what a crazy stage name).
It’s her real name, at least in the sense that her name is Chase Infiniti Payne, so she’s using her middle name for her professional surname.

Saw this last night its a solid 8. Not PTA's best work but glad he constantly pushes his comfort zone.

It has probably one of the most uncomfortable openings iv seen in a long time, but I think that's partly because your going into this not really knowing what to expect...once you settle in to the tempo and general mood of the movie it oddly starts to make sense, but be warned that this is just one weird ass film.

Its also not an action film, its very PTA. So lots of dragging shots with exceptional cinematography. If you liked his previous films your enjoy this. There are gun fights, but they are rare but when they occur every shot is meaningful. It is funny and there's some typical PTA character moments where they will blurt out absurd catchphrases your likely to hear repeated in your friend group every now and again.

As for the whole conservative/MAGA angle - there is nothing in this film that I haven't directly seen on phone videos uploaded to social media.

The casting is 10/10. Sean Penn in particular is amazing, and hopefully will get a Oscar nod for his performance.

Over its opening weekend, One Battle After Another managed $22.4 million domestically and $48.5 million worldwide.
Production budget: $130+ million
Marketing budget: at least $70 million
Break-even target: around $300 million globally

seems a bit of a flop.

For a PTA film its his best opening weekend. His films rarely make money thats why big actors take massive pay cuts to star in them.

He's an art house director, always has been. Studios are happy to take the hit for pretty much gauranteed Oscar buzz.

Studios make endless profitable dross. I’m happy it’s there to bankroll some loss making art once in a while.

Seen this last week, was so disappointed, just felt like it had so many holes in the story and just completely stupid haha but Leo was on point for his acting and funny at times..
