I watched this for about the hundredth time last night. What an utter work of art it is.

I don't think I have seen a better performance by Jack Nicholson and his support cast is awesome. Is it any wonder that it swept the Oscars board in 1975 ?

For the hundredth time, I had slightly damp eyes at the end when Chief does his thing.

Any other fans here on what must be one of the finest films ever made ?

One of only 3 films to win the big 5 at the Oscars. Silence Of The Lambs is one of the other two, which surprised me a fair bit when I found out.

It’s a marvellous movie, an all time classic and has always been one of our favourites. One of Jack Nicholson’s finest performances. As to Louise Fletcher what more can one say, I wouldn’t want to have nurse Ratched around me. The film took five Oscars and could have walked away with nine need I say any more.

I still haven't got around to watching this. I think I'm going to wait and watch it with some friends, after picking it up on BluRay. I've heard nothing but good things about it. :)

Does nothing for me, along with those other films that you're not allowed to dislike, such as Godfather, and Shawshank.

very good movie, and very sad, so I don't like it really, too emotional for me, I can stand Rambo shooting 100s of people etc but this is just grim. I would need to be in the right mood to watch it.

Shawshank and The Godfather are great.

Silence of the Lambs is meh.

A stunning peice of work. Everything about the film just oozes class. All the cast are in the form of their lives on this film.

I love it.

Always raises a smile when they go fishing or when the chief escapes at the end :)

** random trivia **

Second of only three films to win every major Academy Award, including Best Picture.

Will Sampson, who plays Chief Bromden, was a park ranger in Oregon in a park near where the movie was filmed. He was selected for the part because he was the only Native American the Casting Department could find who matched the character's incredible size.

Louise Fletcher was so upset with the fact that the other actors could laugh and be happy while she had to be so cold and heartless that near the end of production she removed her dress and stood in only her panties to prove to the actors she was not "a cold-hearted monster".

Most of Jack Nicholson's scene with Dean R. Brooks upon arriving at the hospital was improvised - including his slamming a stapler, asking about a fishing photo, and discussing his rape conviction; Brooks's reactions were authentic.

Now my two favorite random trivia bits :)

Many extras were authentic mental patients.

During filming, a crew member running cables left a second story window open at the Oregon State Mental Hospital and an actual patient climbed through the bars and fell to the ground, injuring himself. The next day The Statesman Journal in Salem, Oregon reported the incident with the headline on the front page "One flew OUT of the cuckoo's nest".

Tbh i don't know how anyone who enjoys film could dislike One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Godfather and The Shawshank Redemption. Maybe one out of them, but all three, seems very odd.

What films do you rate to be the best then?

Love this film it has loads of good actors in from jack, danny, doc brown, etc. Great story and acting throughout. Even has the evil women from ds9 in it. :)

Every new generation of media gets another tenner out of me for this. I only watch it every couple of years but love it more every time.

I like Shawshank, but I'm not sure it's the best film ever... Not sure what is though. I didn't really get into The Godfather. Lambs is good, but the book is far better.
