Here somewhere!!!
Hi All, I don't know which thread to put this one in so that's why it's here.

Anyway, as I have said on other treads. I was using an old 2006 spec system.

AMD 4400+
Asrock 939 dual sata MB
4gig ram
asus GTX460
650watt PSU
Win xp pro ser/pac3

That system still works fine and I am giving it away to my friends kid with all my old games etc. However I have been asked if It would be able to run/boot from an ssd or not.? I have no idea if that setup could run from an ssd and if so would it be possible to clone the current hd to the ssd with Acronis true image. Does anyone have the answer to that question plz.

That will work with an SSD.

Limited by the boards SATA version but still quicker than a HDD.

Not sure about cloning and being able to go from a larger image of a HDD to fitting the image onto a smaller capacity SSD.

Remember than WinXP might not be "SSD friendly" as it doesn't support TRIM etc, and might require a bit of tweaking in the settings and control panel to optimise it

Many SSDs (Samsung/Intel/Corsair etc) come with software that gives this function.
Go read up and educate yourself about it.

Intel® SSD Toolbox with Intel® SSD Optimizer
Download this free toolbox to access a powerful set of management, information, and diagnostic tools to maintain the health of your Intel SSD and optimize performance to "fresh-out-of-the-box" levels. The toolbox also offers options that securely erase your SSD or that help your system take full advantage of your Intel SSD’s performance via the System Configuration Tuner.

Users have asked for a feature to allow them to manually send a TRIM command to their drives and to also schedule a TRIM operation so that they can optimize their SSD's performance.

And Samsung have Magician Software which has the same feature.

cheers for that. He was wanting me to use a samsung 250gb ssd which he had spare and my old hd's were only 160gb anyway, so I hope it shouldn't be a problem with the cloning apart from maybe my old Acronis software, not sure what version it is though. It's never let me down, but then will work with the ssd???

Stulid - whilst I respect your knowledge in these matters you risk alienating the board regulars with posts such as the one aimed at Shivy above. In my opinion not necessary or expected from a Don.

Let us bite chunks out of him and you can simply moderate the ensuing arguments ;)

Rather not have to tidy up after.
