You need to allow space in front of a moving object to give it a sense of direction, thats the only thing the photo lacks unfortunately. Otherwise, technically, it has been well captured.

King.

I'm not sure if allowing lots of space in front of the bike would work that well? the background makes it obvious the bike is moving and there aren't really any objects in the background so it would just be a patch of grass and concrete in front of the bike. Would look good if there was something more interesting in the background. I normally crop my images slighly to get the subject a bit more central in the pic.

Thanks for the feedback, I will try that next time. Got a load of pics of scooters on the road to take this weekend on the moors towards Whitby. I will try that then. If anyone else has any tips/ideas that would be great.

Cheers

not lots of space, just a small amount. The image does show the bike moving but it needs direction. have a look around for some motorsport shots and you will see that many photographers apply this same technique.

Just to see if the guys are right about space in front of your bike, (I think they are too), you could try loading the file in Photoshop, Increase the canvas size by a couple of inches horizontally, Make a rectangular selection of about 10% of the left hand side and promote it to a separate layer, flip it horizontal and join it to the left side of your photo. You will then ba able to decide for yourself if the shot looks better or not?

Obviously it will not be the finished article, but will give you something to think about? :)
