So firstly I have a 8800GTS and a 7800GTX, the 8 running a 22' and the other a 19', last week the 8 series died so now 7 series running both screens, now at the time of the fault I didnt know it was the gfx died, thought it was a PSU about to blow up or HD failure, reset bios by taking the battery out and all hd's and testing them on another hd...end result yes it was gfx, so plug it all back in and all hunky dorry apart from lagg in games n videos, now the biggest problem and so bloody annoying is that when i sleep the pc or shut down...turns back on again after 3 secs or so...

So question is what could be causing this? I've check bios and wake on lan stuff and nout, so I'm stuck!

Graphics driver issues? Mobo bios issues? Could be a lot of things- I used to have a pc that turned itself on every sunday at midnight- I got in tonnes and tonnes of trouble as a kid because parents kept thinking it was me leaving it on. Turned out to be bios.

Take card out see if it still happens, then try a different mobo bios, then try gcard driver reinstall or change them to a different version.

Computer waking up... do you have a wireless, or a very sensitive mouse, sometimes when I sleep my PC that I nudge the mouse just a tiny bit as I remove my hand, and a few seconds later, up comes the pc.

In the end I just told the PC dont use the mouse for wakeup.. Now I just hit a key on the keyboard, and that is much harder to accidently trigger.

I believe wireless mouse can be even worse, as they are always very slightly lagging behind compared to a wired mouse, so have increased tendancy of waking a PC.

Windows 7 defaults to having events waking the PC as well, including every night Media Centre (Assuming home premium or ultimate edition) checking for updates... so every night my PC was powering on due to that... Just disable events from waking the PC imho. Oh yeah, scheduled virus checks can also wake the pc... Silly thing is, my PC is set to only sleep when I manually request it, so scheduled wakeups leave the PC running until I get back to it :/

Sorry to revive this old thread but I'm still stuck on this issue, nothing else has changed, cept I use Hibernate instead of Sleep now, turned off Wake On Lan, no nudges of mouse or keyboard, litteraly just click shut down or Hib, it'll switch back on in a few secs, very annoying as I have to wait till it's all off then switch the off button on the PSU (Corsair)...

So yes any ideas? maybe a wire crossed accidentally or taken out on the mobo?

If you want the PC to be off for a while can't you just shut it down instead of sleep/hibernate?

It does sound as though something needs changing in the BIOS. Does your CPU show up as an ACPI device in Device manager?

Andi.
