One link or two X-fire

I have noticed on quite a few pictures on here that there are a lot of people using two x-fire links on their graphics cards. I am using just one link across a pair of powercolor 4890's is this limiting my cards performance

It makes no difference - at least it didn't for my 4870s.

Two just look neater.

I didn't get one with my 2nd card, therefore I only use one, and it works perfectly (4870s)

Shouldn't make any difference, I only used two as I had two, and as said, it looks "neater" due to not having any blank ports on the cards.

Thanks for that, if it makes no difference I will leave it alone as it can not be seen as my pc sits out of site

If you've got 2 you may as well put the second on as you'll be 100% sure it's not limiting performance.

There's no point. The other connector is for tri-fire.
