hi I'm going to cool a 5970 & a i7 920. is there any advantage / disadvantage to running both on the same loop or running an individual
loop for each? aside from having to buy two pumps etc

ok so if I run 2 pumps on one loop
could I use a Laing DDC Dual Bay* Multi Fascia Reservoir TWO - XSPC or would it need to
be the one that doesn't have separate compartments inside it?

I think it doesn't matter as long as you can dump the heat and keep the flow rate up. My concern with one loop is that graphic cards can quickly get very hot pushing the overall temperature of the loop up (take my GTX480 for instance). By having two loops I can separate the load on my graphics card from cpu load. I'm sure someone with one loop and two rads will come and tell me that I'm wrong but that's my logic for what it's worth.

Heh, for me your better to have it commoned up as you've then got all your cooling capacity available to either the CPU or the GPU or both at the same time. As you say as long as the pump is upto the job (and an 18W DDC definitely will be if you have one).

Never thought of it like that :)

One loop.

You should be able to cool that all in one loop without any real trouble and one loop saves the cost of the extra components. Loop order doesn't really make a difference to temps as there is little difference (delta) between parts of a loop. Skinnee I think it was did a test and it is only around 1 degree C difference between in and out of a rad.

If I run prime for a couple hours my cpu temp does warm the water enough to start warming my gpu above its idle temps. Under normal circumstances though like gaming, even though my gpu runs hotter and my cpu directly follows my gpu it still stays about 10C cooler.

ok cheers for all of your help,

In which case, since i already own a dual xspc res & 2 pumps i may just sell the res & a pump and get a single loop res if you feel that there's really not going to be a huge differance, I would prefere one loop too as it seems less clutter inside and easier to drain etc etc
