Hey all,

If you were to chose between a Amd A10 7300 or intel i5 5200u laptop, purely for MS Office, keeping photos, internet browsing and shopping and listening to itunes while working, what would you go for? For the missus's work and she is not in to games.

Again thanks.

If it were me i would always choose the intel over the Amd, i'm sure people will pile in a load of benches and graphs weighing one over the other but im my humble opinion the intel mobile platforms seem to have superior longevity and a better chipset.

The one which has the fastest storage,as that will be the major limitation. Both CPUs will be more than good enough for the stuff in the OP,although for any kind of gaming the AMD IGP will tend to be better,as long as the RAM is dual channel, but since this is not a requirement its not important.

Long answer: They have similar CPU performance. The AMD is 2 modules (4 threads) at 1.9 GHz (turbo 3.2 GHz), the Intel is dual core with hyperthreading (4 threads) at 2.2 GHz (turbo 2.7 GHz). The integrated graphics on the AMD is a lot better. They have about the same power consumption.

Short answer: forget the CPU, choose the laptop with the best battery, storage, design, and screen.

(If you really can't choose I'd go with the AMD. HSA is a cool technology and could mature a lot in the next few years.)
