hi all, ive asked several vista Qs inthe past, just one more left. which is:

Vista costs a fair amount here and I am a poor student. I am going to USA in the summer, if i bought it there would it work here?? I mean obviously it would install as a dvd is a dvd, but would it accept the serial key

Yes, it'd work, but technically wouldn't be licenced.

can you expand on that a bit burnsy :) thanks
do u mean the serial would work, just as it would in the country it was bought from, but microsoft arent happy about it.

It breaks MS rules as it's exported from it's intended territory and therefore the licence is on rocky ground.

The serial should allow you to install and activate though.

bill gates tried to make out the price difference between the us and the uk was something to do with the exchange rate ....we shouldnt have to resort to importing a copy because its so much cheaper ....its ripp off britain strikes again!

Damnations!!! Why do they do this?! So annoying... They want a global marketplace but only when it suits them.

See, I'm going out there in a few weeks and Vista ultimate is about the same price in dollars as pounds...

may aswel get it cheap while you can. the thing is, when the number of uses of the serial expires (10 times ithink) and you ring up MS to get a new code, will they start being a pain and sayin well this code isnt from the UK...

i want home retail, 228dollars or 205pounds hmmmm. at that price I may even pick up a copy for my laptop, maybe even my brother(s) aswel

I installed vista ultimate and activated online first time no problems, 2 weeks later I formatted and tried to activate, but it said I had to ring them, which I did and worked ok.

In the RC1 and RC2 the USA versions did not work with the Xbox 360 media center extender; it gave region error messages on the xbox 360.

You may want to check this out if you are planning on using this feature.

I bought my from OcUK. They don't ask where you are calling from when you ring them if that makes any difference.
